Pick the Best and Skip the Rest

We met new people every day. Some of them become part of our life while some just flew away.

Similarly, some of their qualities also become part of our life. We get whatever we focus on. Therefore, be aware to Pick the Best and Skip the Rest.

Who is Good and Who is Bad:

We are always in hurry to judge other person. We all have our own parameters that we expect others to fulfil. Often these parameters come from our own habits and qualities.

We mark others wrong or bad if they do not pass our parameters. If we get up early in the morning, others should also do this. Is he wrong if does not do it.

“We shouldn’t judge people through the prism of our own stereotypes.”

Queen Rania of Jordan

How to Deal with the Differences:

When we see a major gap between our and their thinking, we tends to avoid them. We do not like to be with them anymore. It is not always possible because they could be your colleagues or family member.

“It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences.”

Audre Lorde

How we can deal with people who are different from us?

First, it is important to remember that everyone is unique here. Each has their own values and qualities. You cannot classify them wrong or right based on your perception. As William Shakespeare said, “There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.”

Just because someone thinks differently does not mean he is bad. As per his belief, he is right. You cannot get into his shoes and see all the circumstances. In addition, we cannot change everyone (actually anyone) around us. What we can do then?

“Accept them as they are and focus on the good in them.”

Why to Focus on the Good:

We attract whatever we focus in life. The same is true for qualities and habits as well. If we focus on the good qualities of other person, it tends to be part of us. If we focus on the bad habits, we are simply attracting bad habits.

Suppose you are walking on the garden in the morning. It is an awesome weather. There is fragrance of flowers in the air. You are enjoying.

Suddenly, you saw a pile of garbage around the corner. Your focus turned from flowers to garbage.

First option is to clean it if possible. Second option is to accept as it is and shift your focus on flowers again.

However, mostly we focus on third option. We start focusing on the garbage smell. We stop enjoying what is good and start hating what is bad. You may still find other person enjoying the garden but it is difficult for you now.

Shift your focus to the flowers and you will start enjoying again. Therefore, if you focus on flower you will get fragrance. Similarly, if you focus on the good in people, you will find good people around you. As a result, you will grab their goodness in you as well.

Pick the Best and Skip the Rest:

Suppose, we given a bucket mix of flowers and thorns. We have choice to pick one, what will we pick? Of course, we will pick the flower.

Regardless of age/position/job/family, everyone has some qualities. Everyone can teach you something if you want to. It is your choice if you want to take good or bad.

“We learn something from everyone who passes through our lives. Some lessons are painful, some are painless. But.. All are priceless!”

Many people who have bad habit of drinking, smoking always blame others. They said that they inherited it from their family/friends. If you ask them what good thing you learned from them, they will have no answers.

For each good and bad, we have a choice. We either can skip/neglect it or take it. Be wise.

Be the Best in your Family or Friends:

We should keep striving for excellence. Self-improvement is an ongoing task. Notice the things on which others are good. Appreciate them for their qualities. It will also make your relationship healthy.

“Listen to everyone and learn from everyone, because nobody knows everything but everyone knows something.”

Appreciate them for their skills. If they will find that you like something in them, they would love to teach you as well.

Often our family and friends made up of different qualities. It is rare to find a single person who possesses all the good qualities you are looking for. However, we can be such person by taking best of everyone.

It will sounds wonderful when someone says that you have the combination of all the good qualities that your friends/family have. Therefore, remember the simple formula:

Pick the Best and Skip the Rest.
